All Aboard… To the South Island we go

It is Monday for you and early Tuesday for us…. Know what that means? #26Tuesdays on GameDay

This morning was an early start. The alarm went off about 5 am. Shower, finish packing, have a cup of nespresso… get the luggage cart, check out of the hotel… and be ready and waiting for our driver to pick us up to take us to the Interislander ferry. Now the ferry wasn’t supposed to leave until 0845, and why we had to leave the hotel at 0630 for an 11 minute drive? Beats the hell out of me. But all in all it was a good call. We dumped off our luggage, set up and waited to be called. I was able to finish a blog, so as of right now.. this means I am caught up!!!! Whoohoo!!! You should still be expecting the last Beer Report from the North Island, but Gammy has posted her 2nd musings.

So we had tickets for the premium lounge. The premium lounge has nice seats and free food and drinks! Mommy finally said something to the hostess in the lounge for a blanket. Sure enough the woman came around with blankets for everyone. We should have asked much earlier.

This ride was another 3 hours. The seas were smooth or at least smoother than the Bay of Islands cruise. Breakfast consisted of a buffet with eggs, bacon, sausage, scones, toast, parfait… etc.

Pony and Flat Jesus watched the world float by and we talked and laughed and read and took photos.

There were some lighthouses we saw along the way… way across the bay. The Pencarrow Lighthouses are actually 2 together, plus the one we saw on our 3 hour road trip yesterday.

Jeffrey picked us up from the ferry and took us to Omaka Aviation Museum. The first part of the museum, housing WWI planes and information, had been partially funded by film maker Sir Peter Jackson. There were life like people, but not as big as in the Gallipoli exhibit in the Te Papa. The second building of the museum housed the WWII planes and was being done by all volunteers. There were spitfires and mosquitos, even a Curtiss floatplane. Jim would have to tell you more. This was his bailiwick!

Jeffrey picked us up when we were done and drove us to our residence for the next few days. Even though we had called and ordered groceries for delivery, there were a few things we forgot to add and Jeffrey kindly stopped for us.

Our home away from home is a community of owner properties abutting a winery and the mountains. We have a 2 bed 2 bath upstairs downstairs villa. Oh, and our groceries had arrived and been safely stowed in our chiller, fridge, until we arrived! What nice people here in NZ.

Dinner consisted of spaghetti and meatballs and salad. Then we played a rousing game of Rummikub. We consider a game 4 hands, because Jim always goes first!
