Country Roads and Highways

We did not let Gammy sleep in today. We were up and leaving 4 Felix Street before 8. Whoohoo ahead of schedule. Our route has us driving 17 to 95. This is a good route. First planned stop is lunch, but we know we will have to stop for breaks before that.

The Welcome Center in GA is decked out to the 9s. Let me tell you! The hand dryers and to the side of faucet and look like windmills attached. Jim said a young boy was drying his hands when he went in and came back out. I agree, they were fun. Jim went back out to the car, while we took selfies at all the displays.

Back on the road again, and getting closer to Hinesville, Fort Stuart, and Savannah, this billboard appears! Jim and I ate at Skippers Fish Camp and Gammy remembers eating there with Poppsa.

We cross the border to Florida, reminiscing about the Florida Welcome Centers that served fresh squozed orange juice. Those were the days my friends! Today, not only do I get 1 Welcome to Florida sign, I get all 3.

We take our exit and drive down the Jimmy Buffet Memorial Highway (or a little piece of A1A). I never do see a street sign, but get a photo of our google maps on car play. We are headed towards Callahan for lunch.

Lunch is bbq at The Pig. The Pig is in a strip mall and they sure are friendly. We order fried okra, bbq sandwiches, Jim gets the brisket, hushpuppies (which I do not share), cole slaw, and Jim I think orders mac n cheese. We try their homemade sauces and end up buying 2 of them, the hot pig and the thicker “sweet sauce” which mix well together.

It sure is nicer in Florida. Sorry NY and Eastport. We are not missing the weather one bit!

Driving through Crystal River, we stop at 1 liquor store where we pay way too much for Titos, and then find an ABC that is much more reasonable. Gammy’s box wine is less than we have seen it, as it is on sale, so we buy a few boxes. She is looking for some supplies to make a drink she had in Nashville: good rye, orchard apricot, and cynar. Nope they don’t have it, but she grabs some Bailey’s for when we have leftover coffee. And then we happen upon this…..

To the rental we go. Our instructions say cellular does not work at the house, but the wifi is great. Do we take precautions, no, not us. We get to the house, and are able to distinguish the code to unlock the door, but nope, can’t read the instructions for the password for the internet. AAAGGGGHHHHHH.. what are we to do? #FirstWorldProblems Luckily we have met Kenny, the neighbor next door, who happened to rent this place in the past. Kenny and his wife, Jody, are from Michigan. I go next door, and Jody has all her old emails which contain the password for the internet and we are in business. We also find out from Kenny the elevator does not work. So we haul and haul and haul our bags, boxes, and more boxes up the stairs. Sorry North Country and Eastport, but it is hot!

I think we are going to like it here.

We are looking forward to being back in Eastport and at the WACO as well. We have to take a little trip to Scotland over 4th of July, but don’t worry, we will be “home” for a couple of weeks after that.
