NZ Trip Beer Report 3

Speight’s Gold Medal Ale  🍺🍺

Speight’s Brewery, Dunedin, NZ

This is one of New Zealand’s big brands.  You can find them in most grocery store.  It tasted a lot like a Molson Golden from Canada 🇨🇦

Croucher Sulfur City Pilsner  🍺🍺🍺

Croucher Brewing, Rotorua, NZ

A fine Pilsner, a bit on the hoppy side.  Got to enjoy one at the Rotorua airport after our flight got cancelled and we had to wait for the next one to Wellington.  A good beer makes the waiting easier!

Garage Project Wild Workshop

Aro Street, Wellington, NZ

Garage Project is a small craft brewery with three locations in NZ. Two in Wellington and one in Auckland. The one we visited does the unusual and funky.  Our tour guide around Wellington (Tom) said Garage Project was probably the best micro brewery in town, if not the whole country.

Rua 🍺🍺🍺🍺

Draft. So smooth it tastes almost like a cider.  This beer is aged in a wood barrel type device so that the yeasts and bacteria which make it a sour don’t infect equipment used for “clean” beer.

Ruby Red Kiwi Fruit 🍺🍺🍺

Draft. An excellent sour with plenty of fruit flavor.  These guys know how to do sours.  It would be worth it to move to Wellington just for the beer!

Mon Pitit Chou 🍺🍺🍺

Draft. French farmhouse ale.  A well executed ale!  Sometimes you just need a simple well done ale.

Back Block 🍺🍺🍺🍺

Bottle. Best beer of the trip so far.  Really excellent and I wish I had gotten more.  But it was the last one they had on their shelf.  See the description below.  Genius!

Beer 🍺🍺🍺

Can. This Pilsner is simply called beer.  Got this one on the interislander ferry.  A nice smooth well executed easy drinking beer.

Fortune Favours Beer

Te Aro, Wellington, New Zealand 🇳🇿

Bean to Beer 🍺🍺🍺

Double Chocolate Stout. Very smooth but just a little short on chocolate. If you’re going to call it double chocolate it has to knock your taste buds out with chocolate.

Lucky Fruits Feijoa 🍺🍺🍺

Feijoa Sour. This was a very tasty sour with a nice blend of Feijoa fruit to give an unusual flavor. The feijoa tree is part of the Myrtle family and native to the highlands of South America. The fruit is sweet, slightly tart and aromatic so that it give a nice nose to the beer.

Brightsider Cider 🍺🍺🍺

Draft.  Most every place has a cider and wine for customers who get dragged in by beer fans.  This was a very nice one on the dry and tart side like I like them.

Restaurant Beers:

Tiger Beer 🍺🍺

Singapore 🇸🇬

When in a Malaysian restaurant you need a beer that suits the food. Tiger is always a good choice!  Hard to find in the states unless it’s a Thai restaurant or big city beer store.
