Every 2 years my husband’s family gets together for a family reunion. Sometimes it is out west, sometimes it is south. We have even been to Whistler, BC Canada. This year we are lucky enough to be close enough to drive… and to have my Mommy come and meet us in Stowe, Vermont.
This reunion is a tradition for us. It started as a get together of Cary, Mary (Jim’s mom), Alice, and Ed Wood. Their spouses, their children, and their children’s children. The first reunion took place outside of Lake Placid, in Jay, NY, in 1990. Right after Jim and I were married and right before he deployed to Desert Shield Desert Storm. We did not make that reunion. I don’t think we made the next the next reunion out in Lake Tahoe, and well Jim didn’t make the next one (Korea this time?), but I brought Charlie and we were introduced to the rest of the family. It has become a tradition for our kids to come and now our kids are bringing their kids. Yep, that’s right! Charlie, Stephanie, Qu!nton, and Callie are here with us.
When you have a van, and you are really close to where you are going, one has a tendency to maybe overpack. I am not talking clothes (we are practicing for NZ). Nope, things. Lots and lots of things….
Before we get Callie, we must go over the river and through the woods… or did we go through the woods and over the river… Anyway, we took the Lake Champlain ferry from Plattsburgh to Burlington. Yes, I did bring Pony.
Now we are ready to get Callie… Funny thing about Callie. She called while we were driving (okay while Jim was driving) to double check our arrival time. We couldn’t check into our condo until 3; she landed at 10 and heaven forbid the bar closed at 11. We were still a couple hours out. I thought she said the whole airport was closing. I mean I know Burlington Airport must be small, but to close a whole airport at 11 am.. That was unheard of… Anyway, we managed to pick up Callie and then headed over to Stowe, Vermont.
Charlie, Stephanie, and Q arrived about 30 minutes after we did. Plenty of time for us to unload the whole car, before helping them unload the car. I spent a little time watching Q while the car was being unloaded. It is really hot here. I thought it was supposed to rain, but I guess not. It is probably holding out until our main reunion meal on Monday!
Once Gammy arrived and we unloaded her car, it was just about time to head down the road to Laura’s (one of Jim’s sisters) condo where dinner was being served. We take turns serving each other dinner. We are hosting Mexican meal tomorrow night. There are so many pictures I took at dinner tonight, I think I will just post them separately.
