I truly don’t think I took any pictures on Tuesday. I was starting to feel the “yick” not sure exactly what it was, but I was trying to drink lots of water and stay away from everyone.
Wendy, sweet, kind, loving, responsible Wendy got us on our coach. Rode with us to the airport-I think our driver was called Roy. Why I think this? I keep having pictures of my grandmommy Mickie in my head saying, “Hey Roy! Is that the cat that ate your new boots?-, directed us through the lines to ship our luggage on the pland and get our tickets to board, directed us back through the airport to the escalator that would take us up, up, up, and away. She stayed at the bottom of the escalator as we rode up, and we waved, and she waved. and I think I cried a little bit, I know I am getting teary eyed now thinking about it. Silly rabbit I know.
We are hungry, not really, Jim wanted coffee… I wanted to curl up and sleep. We found a restaurant through the smell bad part of the duty free shop. I really abhor the smelly part of the duty free stores, but that is neither here nor there. We did find the candy part of duty free, so I was able to buy the little dark chocolate Toblerone!
Now we sit and wait… until we can board, and I can sleep. I have to be woken up to go over the safety briefing as we are sitting in the exit row. I don’t remember much of the plane ride, except I need more water and my water bottle which I filled is in the overhead compartment and I am sitting by the window and don’t want to bother anyone.
A comedy of errors getting into Toronto. No I lie. It was fine getting into the country and going through customs. I must have looked awful coming off the plane because a sweet lady who was driving a cart asked if I wanted a ride. Took us straight to the elevator that would take us through customs.
The comedy of errors happened when we were waiting for our 40 passenger bus to bring us back to Star Lake. Our driver, Edmund? showed up in a van about the size of a Sprinter van, 2×2 seats, and not many of them. We stopped along the 401 and got out. When the driver went to start the van…It wouldn’t start. It was so hot, and the air did not work well. But all shall be well and all shall be well and all matter of thing shall be well. And we are back in Star Lake, and saying goodbye, everyone rushing to their cars. Anthony has to get home so Chastity, his wife, can have her baby that she is waiting to have their baby until he came home. Actually fun fact? Chastity was supposed to be a part of the group until she found out she was pregnant!
Reflections:
I really miss having top sheets and wash cloths. I know, I have Norwex wash cloths why didn’t I take them? The hastle of not being able to dry them and I don’t think about not having a wash cloth. The top sheet… Well if you don’t sleep with a top sheet, bless you, and if you do and have never done without, lucky you!
There are very few people we met who spoke with the Scottish dialect, accent, aren’t we all speaking a form of English, that we stereotype for Scotland: coo, aboot, not being able to understand because the dialect is thick. I was really looking forward to listening to that. Wendy had a very melodic dialect.
I still do not like Whisky. I still like Whiskey Sours.
I never had a Steak pie. The haggis wasn’t bad, not sure that it hasn’t been doctored by Sysco or whomever does their restaurant food supplies. I don’t have to eat the Scottish breakfast sausage, nor black pudding again. Is that the white pudding, the Scottish Breakfast sausage. I disremember or I didn’t know.
Jury is still out on the whirlwind 8 day trip to overseas. Jim and I are trying again in November, although we are staying at one place and doing day trips, that might be the way to go. It was nice having most activities planned by someone else and then adding little side trips. I did like the free day every so often that Kate from Uniquely New Zealand planned for us. I know on a whirlwind tour, there is not enough time to have a free day, but…
I did like traveling and meeting new friends. You know what they sing… “one is silver and the other is gold”
I did not like not washing clothes during the 8 days. I did like have sandwiches for lunch and buying lots of different types of crisps. I wish Jim would have bought more kinds of Shortbreads. Walkers is just as prevalent over there as it is over here.
I loved the Greek restaurant in Edinburgh, Simply Greek. Good food, Good people.
I guess there is nothing left to say, but
