From a Bridge in NY to a Castle in Tuscany

Who knew that the Navigator himself, Giovanni da Verrazzano, the man who found the Hudson Bay 501 years ago, would have such an extensive castello in the wine region of Chianti. Our lovely energetic guide, Letitia, gave us the history of the castle and a tour of the wine barrels and then led us to the dining room where we tasted the wine, ate the food, and thoroughly enjoyed our albeit brief-3 hour tour of our first winery.

But what wine tasting would be complete without the lunch prepared?

After stopping in the quaint villiage of Greve, we wandered the back roads to pass the villa of Sting and his winery Il Palagio, and ended back at the Villain time to catch the last evening of the Autumnia Festival. Although I didn’t take a picture, somehow Jim and I found a wine tasting tent. There were sparkling wines, more chiantis, more rosés, more, more, more. A mere 10 euros got you a glass and wine tastings. Leaving the tent, we ended up back in the square with all the food from the night before. More food, more wine, more music!
