Ain’t nothing better than a little Katrina and the Waves!
I’m walking on sunshine, wooah

And don’t it feel good!

📇 THE STORY

We skipped the included Baden Baden tour. It might have been fun and it was a beautiful day. I wanted to see Strasbourg with the sunshine. So Jim and I walked the 5K or so to the city center. So much to see and so little time. The street art was plentiful; there were tile storks all over the city. I missed getting some of them on the way home, but once I realized I had missed some of them, my dogs were barking and we still had a couple of miles left to go before we sleep/nap. The cathedral in Strasbourg, Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg is absolutely beautiful inside and out. We were able to see the clock perform. It is not the best video, but it is on the Youtube Channel. Oh and there are free public toilets right next to the platz or square. It was actually nice not to have to rush to see everything in the city. We walked to Le Petit France, saw many bridges in the city. In fact, there are 230 bridges in the city crossing back and forth over the River Ill (maybe I said this in the first Strasbourg’s post?). So the Raven bridge, or Pont du Corbeau, is a pretty famous bridge and known as the execution bridge. Not only were people executed on this bridge, they were also put in sacks which were sewn up and then thrown in the water.

Strasbourg is known for escargot. We had to try them, don’t you know? Along with the escargot, we ordered Alsace Poutine; not cheese curd, but cheese and carmelized onions! Oh so good!!!

We made it back in time for lunch, but we were full. We made it back in time for our wheelhouse visit. The captain opened up his “home away from home.” Although the area is called the wheelhouse, there is no wheel, but joysticks which run the ship. The wheelhouse is on the sundeck. Everything must fold down or be removed from the top deck when cruising the Main as the bridges are so low. The chair lays back flat. There is a port hole in the roof and that is how the Captain and 1st Mate get in and out of the wheelhouse to steer the ship.

Now it is nap time. But first I must visit with my math class. Or so I thought. Nope, Chuck Testa. I was an hour a head. You know what that means? I get nap!!! After giving my students a tour of the ship and asking questions, it was time for visiting with friends before dinner.

Friday we ship swap to the Skirnir. A 3 hour bus tour to Frankfurt, lunch on the boat, then a walking tour in Frankfurt.

But first I leave you with Denisa. An employee who always smiles and works tirelessly in the lounge and making sure the coffee machine is always working!
