📇 THE STORY
I know I am behind in posting as Jim and I are currently in Karlsruhe, Germany. I have thought and thought how best to organize our last day on the Viking boat and since we stayed in Nuremberg extra days, I thought I would just skip through what we did on our walkabout that you wouldn’t see through the pictures on the rest of the time spent sightseeing in Nuremberg.
We did drive past Zeppelin field on our way into the city. We did not go back out to the grounds there. They called it Zeppelin field even though the Zeppelin only landed once. Hitler loved Nuremberg. He thought it the true center of Germany. Needless to say, Nuremberg was bombed a lot. Most of the old town has been rebuilt and like our guide at the Art bunker said, “If you squint, you might be able to tell how it was supposed to look.”
Right after we left our guide, Daniel, who happened to be the speaker from the night before, in the Frauenkirche Platz, 5 young ladies approached me to do an interview. They were doing a project for school on why visitors came to Nuremberg, what they expected out of the city, and how it was living up to their expectations. Jim stepped aside as he is shy and demure, or antisocial, you pick 🤣. He was taking pictures while I was visiting with the young ladies. I never got their names, but did learn they were in their 11th year of 13 years of school, so I assumed about 10th graders. It was the middle of the day and I wondered aloud why they weren’t in school. I really think students have a lunch break away from school. Anyway they told me their teachers allowed them to be away from school to do their research. I gave them all a sticker and got a selfie with them!
Right after that, the church bells started to ring. I tried and tried to take videos, and have several of them I was going to merge together, until Jim made mention of the fact, he recorded the whole thing. That is when we found out his phone only records at 2x and mine will record at 5x. I uploaded his video to youtube. If you haven’t seen the action on the front of the church in Nuremberg square, it is a real treat. The electors are electing a new head of the Holy Roman Empire.
Jim and I left the square and meandered over to where our Airbnb was to get a lay of the land. It is truly right across the alley from an Irish Pub. It was approaching bus meet up time and heaven forbid if we miss a free meal, although we could have stayed in town. We found a little place to serve us Glühwein and they added rum to it! Let me tell you, the bus ride back was quite fun!
Back on board we ate lunch, took a nap, woke up in time for snacks and before dinner drinks, and then of course dinner. This our final supper!

But we still have one more meal to go and that is breakfast. For breakfast we eat with our Canadian friends. It was very odd when we arrived at breakfast. No one was sitting in their normal spots and we were very late. Ron and Jane were sitting at their normal table, but apparently the tables were set for lunch for the new customers arriving today. They sat there anyway, so we joined them. We shared our phone number; Jim had written all our 411 on an index card. We didn’t realize, but Ron had talked to the staff the night before because today is Jane’s birthday! The rest of the Canadian crew showed up with the cake from the ship to sing Happy Birthday! Jane was all smiles!

✨GAMBoL glimmer
When the sun shines and the wind don’t blow much, attitudes are high. I will miss sleeping while cruising down the river. I will miss the friends made.
I’m so glad we had this time together
Just to have a laugh, or sing a song.
Seems we just got started
and before you know it
Comes the time we have
to say, ‘So long.’
